Starburst Mirror

Guaranteed to WOW your friends, this DIY Starburst Mirror project is not "easy" but it's affordable and all it takes is a little patience.  I found a lot of links, pictures and blogs online on how to make one of these, but none as delicate looking.  As such, it does NOT look homemade, or cheap, though it will only cost you about $15.

Supplies:

kitchen bamboo skewers (2 packs)
10" round wood disk
8" mirror
8" wood quilting circle
hot glue gun
spray paint of your choice

Start by dividing your wooden circle into 16 even quadrants.  Draw a line to divide the circle in half, then quarters, then  then prepare your skewers.  Cut them down to 6 different sizes (32 of each size), each one about 1/4 inch shorter than the rest, so that you can lay them out as pictured. You will need to place 12 skewers per section to finish with exact rays around the mirror.  Before gluing them down, place your mirror in the center of the wood disk and trace around it.  Your skewers will come right up to the edge of the mirror but not go over.  Do not attach the mirror until you have glued down all of the skewers and painted them first.  Use AMPLE amount of hot glue so that the skewers are firmly attached.

Before you spray paint, think outside the box- I think this mirror would look great in teal, fuschia, yellow, white, gold, silver and more!

Paint the disk/skewers, as well as the inner wood circle from the quilting circle.

Once the paint is dry, glue down the mirror and then glue the wood circle on top.
